[ 001 ] Systems & Technology

For firms that refuse to plateau.

Blackletter Lab is a technology partner for Australian professional services firms. We find where emerging technology can recover margin and capacity, then build and run the systems that do it.

[ 002 ] How we work

Two ways we help your firm.

Whether you need new capabilities built from scratch or an ongoing partner running the technology your firm depends on, we structure the engagement to fit

Build & deliver

Custom systems for the way your firm actually works.

From agentic AI to data infrastructure, reporting and integrations, we design and build the systems your firm needs. Engineered for production, not proof-of-concept.

Run & advise

An ongoing technology partner who stays in the room.

An ongoing relationship where we run your systems, solve problems as they surface, and stay involved in the technology decisions that shape how your firm runs. Or a focused strategy session for a single decision.

[ 003 ] Australian Owned & Operated

We understand how Australian professional services firms actually work.

Blackletter Lab was built for the Australian professional services market. We understand the platforms your firm runs, the compliance landscape you navigate, and the commercial pressures you face. No generic playbooks.

[ 005 ] In short

What Blackletter Lab does.

Blackletter Lab is a technology partner for Australian professional services firms. We identify where emerging technology (agentic AI, data infrastructure, reporting and business intelligence, workflow automation, and system integration) can recover margin and capacity, then design, build and run the systems that deliver it.

  • Agentic AI: systems that do real work, with a human in control of decisions that matter.
  • Data infrastructure: a reliable single source of truth your firm can actually use.
  • Reporting & BI: dashboards partners and management actually open.
  • Workflow automation: automated handoffs that take repetitive work off your team.
  • System integration: the connections that make your existing platforms talk to each other.
Most firms don't have a technology problem. They have systems that don't talk to each other, data they can't use, and no one whose job is to fix it. That's the gap Blackletter Lab fills.

[ 006 ] Common questions

Questions firms ask.

What firms most often want to know before working with Blackletter Lab.

What does Blackletter Lab do?

Blackletter Lab designs, builds and operates technology systems for Australian professional services firms. We work across five capabilities (agentic AI, data infrastructure, reporting and business intelligence, workflow automation, and system integration), applied in sequence or in isolation, to recover margin and capacity.

Which firms does Blackletter Lab work with?

We work with a small number of Australian professional services firms at a time. Our deepest experience is in law, but the same capabilities apply to any firm that runs on matters, billables and a stack of platforms that don't talk to each other. Both founders are involved in every engagement.

How does Blackletter Lab handle our firm's data?

All data is stored in Australia and handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles. We execute a mutual NDA before any engagement involving firm data, and a one-page information security statement is available on request.

How do you keep the systems you build secure?

We build and operate to recognised Australian security guidance, including the Australian Cyber Security Centre's Essential Eight, and we monitor systems in production rather than handing over a proof-of-concept and walking away.

Is your AI safe to use on client work?

Yes. Our agentic AI is built to be transparent, accountable and human-in-the-loop, consistent with Australia's AI Ethics Principles. A person stays in control of any decision that affects a client or a matter.
